Now Here's an Interesting Question
Bush Says Anthem Should Be in English.
The national anthem should be sung in English -- not Spanish -- President Bush declared Friday, amid growing restlessness over the millions of immigrants here illegally.
''One of the things that's very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul,'' the president exclaimed. ''One of the great things about America is that we've been able to take people from all walks of life bound as one nation under God. And that's the challenge ahead of us.''
A Spanish language version of the national anthem was released Friday by a British music producer, Adam Kidron, who said he wanted to honor America's immigrants.
I think it'd be a nice start if the pretzelnit spoke English.

"I think it'd be a nice start if the pretzelnit spoke English."
LOL. Isn't that the truth? And here's something else to think about...if we really want to be that authentic, shouldn't we all be singing the anthem in one of America's original native American tongues? Maybe not, since the anthem reflects the America that grew from the 13 colonies, which were founded by a bunch of immigrants.
They must be having a fall-on-the-floor about this in the UK, since they have never thought that what we speak is English.

I guess the part I don't understand is why the dude even cares? I mean, it's not like they tried to sing it at a baseball game or at Yale or his elementary school in Spanish? All it is is an album - whatever happened to artistic license?
Oh, ooooohHH!!! We're losing our national SOULLLL!!

Amber, the Boy-in-Chief speaks Murkan!

Diane, it's too much, no? It just kills me to watch dumbyass up there hemming and hawing his way through simpleton sentences, talking about our "national soul" (kiss.my.ass.), and asserting his privilege all the way. A silver spooner idiot who's never worked a day in his life determining the hardwon futures of people who work themselves to the bone for every crumb? It's painful.
Also, what's the word for "spangled" in Ojibwa? Heh.
Amber, as David notes, that idjit barely speaks Murkan! I know one thing that's easy for him to say though: "It's hard work."
Congogirl, very good question. I wonder if dumbyass would prefer the song if it were sung by Toby Keith. ::cough::
And if I'd had more time, I would've spent an hour going off on "national soul." Oh, for Pete's sake. Do they have no shame? Do they keep their script writers completely removed from reality? How could one even offer such a saccharine -- and patently cynical -- sentiment? Ptooie.
David, the Boy King barely speaks Murkan!
ThankfullySadly, the SCLM translates him to his advantage.Posted by: ae | Saturday, 29 April 2006 at 12:46 AM
Yep, it's not American, it's Murkan. He's scary, downright scary.

DivaJood, I've been thinking a lot about this idea of "Murkan." We all know what it means and the importance of making the distinction, right? I hope I have the stamina one day in the not-too-distant future to read all the theses that will inevitably dissect the language of this political period.

My 1 year old granddaughter babbles away in a language all her own (not Murkan, but just, well, whatever) and she makes more sense than W.

DivaJ, I have no doubt your 1-yr-old granddaughter is more coherent, more charming, and more capable of expressing compassion than this moe-ron. That said, I have no doubt she has more integrity, too. I'm ready to vote for her.
